Odds and sods

Gold up, oil down, asian/indian markets mixed, european markets mostly up, north american stock futures pointing to lower opening...

There are quarterly options and futures contracts expiring  today where four different types are expiring, so could make for some choppy trading at the macro level.

On the technicals, next major resistance for VTR is at 1.49 and conversely there is good support just below at 1.35.

The MACD on an hourly view yesterday showed it running out of steam by 2 p.m, but to be expected given the pace of the day.

All of this should make for an interesting day ahead.

And for value comparison, this was KGN's maiden 43-101 on Esaase from three years ago:

October 25, 2007, Vancouver, BC: Keegan Resources Inc. ("Keegan") is pleased to announce the initial resource estimation at the Esaase gold property in southwest Ghana. The resource includes 1.43 million ounces in an inferred category and 0.24 million ounces in an indicated category at an average grade of 1.4 g/t Au applying a 0.6 g/t Au cut-off. A total of 151 holes drilled at collar spacing ranging from 25m by 40m to 40m by 80m were used to establish the resource.

The low in Oct 2007 for KGN was 2.86.  The high for the month was 4.75.  It exited October at 4.36, for an approximate gain of 50% in one month.  I didn't have access to price history that would have showed what happend on Oct 25-27 timeframe.  And note that they only had 0.24M ozs indicated vs most in the Inferred.  They didn't discover Asumura until 4 months later.

And in March 2008 Semafo updated its resources for Mana (which is their flagship mine right now) and at that time it had 924k ozs proven and probable and signalled their breakout with a big increase in inferred to 1.8M, for a total of approx 2.7m ozs at Mana.  They had other mines actively producing so you can't really compare, but size-wise it gives another baseline for mine-to-mine comparison and potential value, if you consider that Mana is responsible for 70% of Semafo's total production, it gives you another fact to use when trying to determine future value of VTR.  .
