depth of trading

Following up on my new invention which I have not yet patented, I will refer to for now as "depth of trading", today's number for Volta, assuming 25,000 shares trading at this point is:  .0001, and  IAMGOLD's is (based on 400,000 shares traded) .001.    So the depth of trading for Iamgold is ten times that of Volta's.  To put it another way, if the total outstanding shares for each company were 100,000, Iamgold would be trading 100 shares and Volta would be trading 10 shares.    To put this in plain English, the significance of Volta's trading on a day like today is ten times less significant than the trading for Iamgold on a day like today, simply because the trading has very little depth.

ALLEN4, will you exclude large crosses?  As soon as you said it, there was this 50K cross by Jennings.   The problem with this depth of trading is that it only takes a few 10K's shares to bring sp further down which will trigger another batch of scared retail investors... It' a vicious cycle until.... what I want to see is a model that will tell you ...more

In any case, looking at VTR's OBV and Accum/Dist provides a pretty clear indication that the moves up in price have tended to be on large volume, while ...more

I agree, its probably not helpful, just using this number to stress the point that we are very illiquid and that the trading happening is not representative of the sentiment of the vast majority of shareholders.   What would be helpful to know would be the perception in the community of gold miners as to the market value on a buyout.  For instance, I doubt that PRU would think that ...more

Maybe your new "invention" might be more useful in a fair and honest system but in this casino market it is meaningless info due to rampant unreported naked shorting (i.e. creates infinite phantom shares far exceeding total outstanding shares reported by companies) and more traditional "fractional reserve like nature" borrowing shares to short (i.e. each time a new long buys ...more
