tempted to buy but maybe I can get it

cheaper if there is more tax loss selling.  Hard to know.

I know it's hard to believe, and I know that the 'something is wrong here' comments are generally just designed to generate fear, but sadly, I think in Volta's case there is something definitely wrong.  And I don't think it has anything particularly to do with the company or mgmt, it's just that the market has decided that VTR will never raise 600 million to finance ...more

VentureTrader!, Well written and sincere.  But I disagree, and I wish I could persuade you not be be so gloomy.  I think you are placing far too much reliance on "the market" to inform you about the value of this company.  You have been around long enough that I can tell you comfortably that you know more than the market, especially the "market" today that says ...more

Personally I think me, ALLEN4 and VT1 are all going nowhere and are either going to go down with the ship or be flying high in a year's time!!  I've already cleared it with the wife that I'm taking a stand against Mr Market and I'm prepared to lose my entire investment in order to stand up to these cyber-bullies!! Of course at the same time I AM Sh***ing it!!  :-)

Lol, you are lucky that you have a wife that believes not only in you but in the stocks you invest in.   I like Kevin Bullock and I feel good about Volta as a company but I doubt there is anything honourable about going down with the ship and losing all your money on an investment.  I know you were just joking - at least I hope you were.  Believe me I have no  intention of ...more

I certainly am blessed with a great wife, and I am joking around of course (I'm Irish so it's a bad habit!).  But the thing is, if you believe in the company, how will you ever know that you should get out until it's too late?  Am I right VT1?
Comment by VentureTrader1 on Nov 30, 2012 3:46pm
Well, my feeling is that you need to believe in the company at the time you invest, because that's what provides the fundamental background for the shareprice appreciation you're expecting.  Otherwise you're just hoping a greater fool will come along and take your shares off your hands before everybody figures the game out and dumps.   But for me, as soon as I buy, the safest ...more

VentureTrader1, very detailed and high quality post outlining not only the issue haunting VTR but the same issue across the board with many of these similar exploreCo's and developmentCo's juniors.  As I mentioned before many, many months ago I exited out of VTR after realizing that there was an abrupt but fundamental shift in investor mindset between investment in cash flow producing ...more

Interesting comments, and though you were responding to VT1, here is my response. The shift in mindset of investors away from explorers/developers to producers is obvious to all who follow the sector.  You suggest that this is not a short term phenomenon and will last for several years.  I can't see that.  You mention that juniors are required to continue raising funds ...more

Thanks for all the wonderful comments and analysis...... Bottom line is coming down to whether VTR management can come up with a workable staging development approach with a reduced initial capex in the order of $200 - $250mil AND more importantly, how the financings (for that initial capex) are coming from (by making some deals or whatever)....... If those are clear and legit, then the market ...more

THE LAST DROP: In the gold mining business, it may take you five years just to get a mine built, but then it will last for another 20 or 30 years. We’re making very long-term decisions, but we’re being judged by our investors on an increasingly short-term basis. It used to be challenging because of the focus on quarter-by-quarter performance. Today it seems investors want to know what’s going on a ...more

I think investors are increasingly demanding to know what's going on week-to-week because the producers have now established a pretty solid track record of really unpleasant downside surprises for their investors in quarterly reports.  Missed targets, higher-than-forecast production costs, 'unanticipated' technical issues, the list goes on and on.  G, ABX, NEM, IAG/IMG, K/KGC ...more
