the below article has some interesting stats including average grades, etc. It pegs the number of undeveloped gold deposits over 5 million ounces at 66.

Curvature, NG Donlin deposit will need $6.7B startup cost.... a huge number in today's climate.  It's 10 times Kiaka's startup cost but it does not have 10 times number of oz Kiaka has?!   So, it does not count.    I will have to add some more conditions then: - capital cost will have to be around $500 millions like VTR's Kiaka deposit. - the deposit is being ...more

So.... why didn't they do the FS for 5mil oz of AU then, if it's so good according to your calculation?   Nah.... they can do better than that.... with merely $6.7B start up cost for over 50 mil oz of Au.....

Below is NG Donlin FS.   Note: - they only used 5% discount for its NPV.    - IRR is only 6% and 12% at POG $1200 and $1700/oz - Payback period 9.2 and 5.3 years at POG $1200 and $1700/oz Even at $1700/oz, the IRR and payback period is worse than Kiaka.   Who is going to lend you $6.7B to develop the mine? If like you said they can do better just to develop 5 mil oz of Au ...more
