Clarification - in CANADA, last day for tax buying/selling was Dec 29. In the US, last day for tax buying/selling is Dec 31.   Clearly there is some heavy selling in the US given the heavy volume today (Dec 30) that started at 1 pm on the NASDAQ. TSX volume is considerably lighter.  The US trading might be to capture short term capital losses where the hold is less than 1 year

Estreet: Furthermore the wash sale rule will restrict tax loss sellers in Canada and the US from repurchasing the same stock for 30 days in order to declare the tax losses.  In other words, when the markets open in January, there will be no further tax loss selling.  That will reduce downward pressure, if any, caused by tax loss selling. Domayne,,,, Excellent summary and puts some of these movements on certain dates into perspective, this is not always the case with VMD which continues to fluctuate wildly like a penny stock,,.  The volume history does support your information very well, today was the highest US volume since mid Oct and the 3rd highest in the last 90 days,,. Todays rally ended with the US volume spike at 1.00

Great post donmayne, makes a lot of sense to me as well. I honestly can't remember the last time the stock had a green day, or consecutive green days. Meaning investors buying shares, instead of selling. I think that markets are closed early tomorrow, it baffles me why so many wait till the last days before tax loss selling. Frustrating stock to hold, my patience is wearing thinner by the day
