Woulfe Mining Corp > Argumentum ad Hominem....

Argumentum ad Hominem....

is a legal latin phrase referring to a logical fallacy.  It involves insulting or belittling one's opponent in order to attack his claim or invalidate his argument.  It can also involve pointing out true character flaws or actions that are irrelevant to the opponent's argument.  This tactic is logically fallacious because insults and negative facts about the opponent's personal character have nothing to do with the logical merits of the opponent's assertions.

If we engage in "argumentum ad hominem",  we may think we are advancing our assertion, but in truth, we are only showing our own illogical thought process.  We expect children might have this type of shallow thought process, but with grown adults, unless there is a limited mental capacity or a personality disorder, we expect more logical reasoning.  My rule of thumb on these billboards is to never respond in kind with any argumentum ad hominem, but always be ready and willing to participate in any logical discussion or exchange of ideas.  We should all be grown up enough to accept criticism of our reasoning, but when the criticism turns to personally attacking the character of the other person, that is where reasonable people will all agree it steps over the line.

The one logical point that can be validly made this week is that no matter how derisked any given project seems, the overall market can always trump the trick.  Still, one would hope that if you have been dealt a good hand in cards, you will eventually win.  However, it brings home the fact that there is always some risk involved with investing in any stock, especially penny stock.  Lets keep our posts logical and respectful.

Thanks MSmith, always great to see a psychologically mature person posting on these stock boards. Finally got the chance to buy some WOF.v today at a price (50k shares at 24 cents on the pinkie ticker WFEMF) near to the price i initially missed in Jan. (22 cents) when i first heard of WOF.v.  The chart had not looked good for quite some time after the quick run-up to low 40s cents, which ...more

Value1008, tell me more about the pinkie ticker WFEMF.  I am not familiar with it.

MercurySmith, WFEMF.pk is the USA ticker for buying WOF for those of us who live in USA (i'm in California). It traded 87k shares today-- i was the buyer of 50k of those shares, starting around 0.234 i think. All averaged out to nearly exactly 24 cents/sh.  About 1/2 cent higher than had i been buying in Canada with Canadian dollars. Some of the guys at InvestorsHub.com who've written ...more

Value1008, thanks for the reply.  I was aware that WFEMF is the USA ticker, but what I am unaware of is why someone in the USA would choose using that ticker over using the TSXV.  No doubt there are tax advantages and legal constraints.  I was wondering exactly how it worked. I assume it is no different that we Canadians using the TSXV, but I just am unfamiliar with the USA ...more

Answer a fool and you become a fool. Don't answer him and he thinks himself wise. Somewhere in the Bible

Dickles you are bang on.  Proverbs 26:4-5 reads:  "Answer not a fool according to his folly, lest thou also be like unto him.  Answer a fool according to his folly, lest he be wise in his own conceit."  I think it is saying that it is a lose-lose situation if not handled properly.  A response attacking the character of another reflects more on us.  ...more

Bringing in the bible into this discussion is beautiful and all but I feel using the IGNORE button works most efficiently ... GLTA !!

Picked up some more cheapie shares at 0.238 this a.m., thanks to whomever was selling them. Have some more bids in just below this in case the ...more

The world seems more like one country these days when it comes to investments that are self-directed through an on-line broker.  I suppose someone from California could (if they have a Canadian Social Insurance Number) get self-directed trades directly through the TSXV.  The problem seems to be there is no tax incentive to do so.  Value1008, your U.S. IRA's seem to come in two ...more

...I am a WFEMF holder with an off topic stock purchase question. Trying many U.S. brokers, I have not been able to buy Samsung Electronics. Hopefully Canadians have more flexibility than the U.S. Has anyone tried?

I use TD Waterhouse in Canada, and have Canadian as well as US and world equity trading accounts. Have you tried TD Waterhouse in the US?
