well usually a stock trader who sells short is ..............rather down on his luck.   /they dont have enough money to buy stock so they need to sell stock to get some cash.   Most short sellers also go to the food bank on a regular basis.

Very good point: however, the market now bases sp price on this artificial surplus of shares which doesn't exit & bases the price accordingly. The number of shares out is finite unless there is another offering of shares by the said company.
