Management Experience?

I had an opportunity to buy in at a friends and family level and didn’t... the plan they have is well thought out and attainable, but I don’t see execution happening for a few reasons:

1- Management has experience in private equity but none when it comes to running a public company. Also, management is a group of friends, who continue to expand that narrative by hiring more of their buds (pardon the pun) into director positions without so much as a reference check. They are all punching above their weight class, IMO.

2- Their retail concept is too gimmicky and I think they are overthinking things. Needing to build word of mouth so that it’s not confused for a record shop doesn’t seem like great marketing. It looks like their stores are costing a lot more than competitors, and I don’t see room for luxury brands in the cannabis space at this time. Prices are locked in by law. You can’t test product. It’s a liquor store type model. I go to the most convenient place, or the cheapest place, not the liquor store that seems fancy. Spending more on locations, and making them unassociable to cannabis at a curb appeal level puts them behind competitors right off the get go.

Ran into one of their retail directors in a hotel when they opened in Saskatoon, and he seemed to be throwing shade at upper management and their commitment. Seemed like cracks developing between the management boys club were already developing. Hard to run an effective business and maintain friendships, IMO. I thought about throwing some money in when they were in the 40 cent range, but I still see so much risk. Wouldn’t be surprised if a larger player comes in and buys them out for pennies on the dollar, with the CEO and CFO making some cash and everybody else left holding the bag.

Total nonsense. Never ceases to amaze me the length that people will go in order to try to buy shares at a cheaper price.  You wrote all that for a stock you're not interested in - haha.

I feel this is a discussion board. I could either be Kingmoney telling everybody the upswing is coming next week, or I could provide my own opinion. I have interest in this stock, I’m giving my own rationale why I haven’t jumped in yet until they prove they can execute on their plan. There is no way a comment on a discussion board will ever swing a stock one way or another. I’d love to hear why ...more

It's comical that folks will read and discredit legitimate posts because they have their blinders or "green goggles" on.  I'm in the same boat as yourself.  I know (informally) some of the "decision makers" at the top and they're not the type to be running a company like this.  They are following every mistake that companies like this make.  They ...more

You do what you need to do Jacksnap. ForFun, thanks for the comment. It seems Westleaf themselves might be realizing they need some more experience within the business, as they've brought on two board members in the last few months with backgrounds in Finance and Retail. Still a stock worth watching, as I think their production should be a bigger part of their business than the retail side ...more

Yep.  We're quickly seeing how tough retail is for MJ companies.  The prices are set so the companies trying to mimic the premium Apple retail store "vision" simply don't have the returns needed and will soon be looking for cash to keep afloat.  I look at the US (Vegas) retail side of things as an example... And that's successful because pricing isn't ...more

If you think a message board post has the ability to drive a share price down to purchase @ lows, you really overestimate the power of a message board (unless I was some verified insider, etc).  Only a complete idiot would read these posts without doing do diligence and then proceed to trade under that guidance. ...Besides, Westleaf Management is doing a good enough job on their of driving ...more
