I have done this same damn thing more than once. You get your order all entered and for some reason it defaults to sell and I didn't notice until after i hit the button. Hurts when in a trading account and have to clain the gain. Usually I just but back right away or cancel the order if I catch it in time.

Wouldnt buying back right away still affect your avg cost in a negative way ? Say my avg is at 1$ and I sell by mistake at 2$ but rebuy right away at 2$. My avg would still go up to 1.50$ ?

It depemds on what percent you sold and bought. If in a trading account subject to capital gains it just triggers the gain on the shares sold. When you buy them back yes your average cost will be higher on the remaining shares.
