Don't spend to much time wodering about it as neither will happen.

As an "industrial gas cleantech" play XBC has a better chance of being taken over by Linde or AirLiquid (where both companies had $BB mergers, Linde with Praxair and AirLiquid with AirGas). When GRN was put up for sale, they had a hard time finding a buyer.

XBC wouldn't fit in their current suite of products.

Both GRN and XBC will do well in the future, and I believe they'll both have a multi-billion dollar market cap. A merger 3-5 years down the road could happen.
