Could someone explain the pre-market spread?
$3.30-$3.49? That's a pretty wide gap, no? I know Canadian premarkets aren't exactly top indicators for the performance of the subsequent trading-day, but I would like to know why the spread is so wide, how that happens, etc... much obliged.

It's absolutely meaningless . Unlike the US, there is no pre-market trading in Canada so the indication 2 hours before the market opens isn't even worth looking at. Nobody has put in their day-orders yet.

new bids and asks actually start showing at 7am...but I agree pre-market is totally meaningless until 9:28am.

I think it depends on your broker. I notice withh CIBC sometimes it doesn't show but TD and Scotia usually do.

In addition, if the shorts want to cover, they wouldn't want to stack up the bids too early to broadcast any demand for the stock.
