TORONTO, NEW YORK (CP) - Toronto & New York (The Canadian Press) - Worries about the strength of an economic recovery pushed the Toronto stock market sharply lower Monday afternoon despite good U.S. economic news and a solid profit report from Ford Motor Co.

Stanley Works (NYSE: SWK, Stock Forum); Black and Decker (NYSE: BDK, Stock Forum)
Rival toolmaker Stanley Works said after the bell that it would acquire Black & Decker in an all-stock deal worth $4.5 billion. Stanley will offer 1.275 Stanley Works shares for each Black & Decker share, a 20% premium over the latter’s Friday closing price.

Detour Gold (TSX: T.DGC, Stock Forum)
The company reported assay results for 35 diamond drill holes at its Detour Lake project in northern Ontario. The company highlighted several holes that intersected gold in the Calcite Zone. It said the most important results came from hold DG-09-715 with 2.66 grams per tonne (uncut) or 2.4 g/t over 36 metres.
