"We've had a really nice rally off the lows, but I think there are too many uncertainties still revolving around Libya and the recovery in Japan to give people the confidence to break the market through 1,300 on the S&P," said Carlton Neel, senior portfolio partner at Virtus Investment Partners, in an interview with Associated Press.

Toronto & New York (The Canadian Press) - The Toronto stock market drifted to a slightly lower finish Tuesday as energy stocks failed to respond to sharply higher oil prices while investors took in good news about efforts to bring an overheated Japanese nuclear complex under control.
The S&P /TSX composite index closed 13.7 points lower at 14,000 with investors disinclined to build on Monday's big 220-point surge. The TSX Venture Exchange was up 11.89 points to 2,297.13.
The Dow Jones industrial average slipped 17.9 points to 12,018.63. The Nasdaq composite index was off 8.22 points to 2,683.87 while the S&P 500 index moved down 4.61 points to 1,293.77.
