On the weekend and into this week, Stockhouse posters on the HudBay Minerals (TSX: T.HBM, Stock Forum) Bullboard were discussing recent reports that the company may be in the hunt for an acquisition.
According to media reports, including a recent article by the Canadian Press, the company is considering “significant” acquisition and joint-venture opportunities, according to CEO Peter Jones.
“Jones said the slump in base metals prices has created excellent acquisition opportunities for companies with healthy balance sheets, and HudBay has made completing one or more deals a “high priority” this year,” reported the Canadian Press.
On the Bullboard Sunday night, lalabuz said: “It would be interesting to hear some of your thoughts in regards to possible acquisitions or the likelihood of being bought out[sic].”
While, on Monday morning, Ridgeback noted: “There are plenty of good deals out there. Anyone's guess who may form a venture with Hbm? I would have liked to see a QUA-HBM merger[sic]”…
And, Stockdog12 offered the following thoughts: “A few of the Junior Co's HBM have optioned ground to are VMS, MGR HLO and RCR. HLO have done a couple 43-101 's on a couple properties in the Sherridon/Cold Lake area. MGR I believe have also done a 43-101 on the Fon and Wim Lake properties in the Flin Flon and Snow Lake areas.. VMS say they have 3 to 5 million tons, but a 43-101 has never been done on the Reed Lake Discovery hole area.”
“HBM might be interested in TAM. Proven zinc reserves, old Pine Point mine in the NWT. Just throwing it out there,” commented threelaner19.
