TORONTO (SHfn) – ATAC Resources (TSX: V.ATC, Stock Forum) shares surged 53% to $4.07 on Wednesday after the miner reported that the first diamond drill hole at the Osiris Target on its Sten claim block has intersected 9.26 grams per tonne (g/t) gold over 31.13 metres within a larger interval that averaged 4.65 g/t gold over 65.20 metres. The Sten claims are situated at the eastern end of ATAC's wholly-owned 1400 sq/km Rau Gold Project in Yukon.

As well, shares of SemBioSys Genetics (TSX: T.SBS, Stock Forum) added 13% at 18 cents as the biotechnology company announced that the United States Patent and Trade Mark Office has granted the company U.S. patent 7,786,352 entitled "Methods for the Production of Apolipoproteins in Transgenic Plants." The granted patent claims include the methods for the expression of apolipoprotein (Apo) in plants, including Apo AI(Milano), the introduction of related chimeric nucleic acid into plant cells and producing plant cells capable of growing into mature plants which produce seeds that express apolipoprotein.

GWR Resources (TSX: V.GWQ, Stock Forum), meanwhile, reported the discovery of new mineralization within the Spout Lake Skarn Zone area of the large Lac La Hache project in British Columbia. New occurrences of massive magnetite-copper containing gold-silver and cobalt have been discovered during sampling of bedrock associated with strong magnetic anomalies on a recently completed, detailed ground magnetometer survey. GWR stock popped 13% to 17 cents.

And, Geodex Minerals (TSX: V.GXM, Stock Forum) late Tuesday reported that Northcliff Exploration Ltd. of the Hunter Dickinson group has signed an agreement to acquire a 70% interest in the company's Sisson Brook tungsten-molybdenum project in New Brunswick. Northcliff will fund expenditures of up to $17 million, including the completion of a $1 million private placement in Geodex at 30 cents per share, a 160% premium to the closing price on August 30, 2010. Geodex shares jumped 9% to 12.5 cents on Wednesday.
