Stocks turn lower in mid-morning trading

The TSX composite was lost 62.93 points to 12,436.83 in mid-morning trading on Friday. The Dow was down28.27 to 13,203.88, while NASDAQ fell 7.04 to 8,291.34.

Inmet Mining Corp. (TSX: T.IMN, Stock Forum) reported a 19% rise in third-quarter profit, helped by higher copper sales volume from its Spanish Las Cruces mine. The stock rose 5.4% and was trading at $55.44 a share.

The price of gold plummeted US$31.75 to US$1,683.61 an ounce, while silver gave back US$0.96 to U$31.32 an ounce.
