Stocks turn lower in mid-morning trading after Obama's narrow victory

The TSX composite was down, falling 141.01 points to 12,220.19 in mid-morning trading on Wednesday. The Dow was down 331.65 to 12,914.03, while NASDAQ lost 76.09 to 2,935.84.

Enbridge Inc. (TSX: T.ENB, Stock Forum) reported a third-quarter profit as losses on financial derivatives fell and it carried more oil and natural gas on some of its pipelines. Enbridge shares dipped 31 cents to $39.78.

In other news, as investors weighed Obama's win and what it means for regulation, shares of financial companies and energy producers fell sharply.

The price of gold fell US$4.63 to US$1,711.35 an ounce, while silver declined US$0.39 to U$31.6 an ounce
