Stocks sluggish in mid-morning trading, TSX Venture up

The TSX composite fell 45.47 points to 12,185.12 in mid-morning trading on Wednesday. The Dow was down 37.86 to 12,894.87, while NASDAQ gave back 14.66 to 2,922.63.

In the energy sector, Canadian Natural Resources Ltd. (TSX: T.CNQ, Stock Forum) had $360 million of net income in the third quarter or 33 cents per share, down from $753 million or 68 cents per share a year earlier.

Results were affected by lower prices for crude oil, synthetic crude oil, natural gas liquids and natural gas partially offset by higher volumes of crude oil and synthetic crude. In mid-morning, Canadian Naturals Resources’ stock was down 3.77% and was trading at $27.86 a share.

The price of gold rose US$6.30 to US$1,724.02 an ounce, while silver eased US$0.31 to U$32.13 an ounce.
