Stocks turn lower in mid-morning trading

The TSX composite fell 62.19 points to 12,341.44 in mid-morning trading on Thursday. The Dow was down 19.12 to 13,232.85, while NASDAQ lost 6.79 to 3,037.57.

Google Inc. (GOOG, Stock Forum) announced it will sell its Motorola Mobility Home division, which includes cable set-top boxes and modems, to Arris Group Inc. (ARRS, Stock Forum)for US$2.35 billion.

The price of gold slipped US$29.07 to US$1,638.12 an ounce, while silver gave back US$1.31 to U$29.72 an ounce.
