Mid-morning report: earnings reports weigh on stocks

The TSX composite was lower, falling 0.36 points to 12,761.23 in mid-morning trading on Thursday. The Dow was down 110.97 to 13,875.55, while NASDAQ lost 24.40 to 3,144.07.

Copper miner Teck Resources Ltd. (TSX: T.TCK.B, Stock Forum) said net profit fell to $145 million, or 25 cents per share, down from $637 million a year ago in its fourth-quarter report. In mid-morning trading it was down 4.94% and was trading at $34.83.

The price of gold rose US$2.52 to US$1,680.15 an ounce, while silver slipped US$0.06 to U$31.77 an ounce.
