Mid-morning report: Stocks mixed

The TSX composite was lower, falling 12.97 points to 12,708.82 in mid-morning trading on Friday. The Dow was up14.90 to 13,988.29, while NASDAQ gained 2.23 to 3,200.89.

Enbridge Inc. (TSX: T.ENB, Stock Forum) reported an 8% fall in quarterly profit as it was hurt by a $105-million after-tax charge related to certain off-shore assets. It was up 0.95% to $44.55 in mid-morning.

Telus Corp. (TSX: T.T, Stock Forum) posted a 23% rise in quarterly profit on Friday, helped by strong growth in its wireless business. It rose 1.47% to $67.76.

The price of gold lost US$28.07 to US$1,606.70 an ounce, while silver slipped US$0.52 to U$29.87 an ounce.
