Invicta Energy soars 30% on takeover news: Canadian market movers

On Monday, the top TSX mover was Whitecap Resources Inc. (TSX: T.WCP, Stock Forum). It fell 2.63% and was trading at $9.24 on volume of 12.3 million shares.

The exploration and development company said it would acquire Invicta Energy Corp. (TSX: V.VCA, Stock Forum) to extend its existing oil drilling operations in west central Saskatchewan.

B2Gold Corp. (TSX: T.BTO, Stock Forum) was the second most active stock on the TSX. The stock was unchanged and trading at $3.18 on volume of 5 million.

On March 15, the gold producer said it would release its 2012 fourth quarter results and full year 2012 financial results before the North American markets open on Thursday March 28, 2013.

Invicta Energy Corp. (TSX: V.VCA, Stock Forum) was the volume leader on the TSX Venture Exchange. It soared 30% and was trading at $0.52 on volume of 17 million.

The oil and gas junior announced an arrangement agreement with Whitecap Resources Inc. (TSX: T.WCP, Stock Forum), whereby the exploration and development company would acquire Invicta for either a 0.05891 of a Whitecap common share or $0.51911 in cash per a share.

The second most active stock on the TSX Venture was Troymet Exploration Corp. (TSX: V.TYE, Stock Forum) It plummeted 33% and was trading at $0.01 after 2.1 million shares changed hands.

On March 4, the exploration junior announced the beginning of a drill program at its McClarty Lake precious metals project, located in the Flin Flon greenstone belt.
