Mid-morning report: Stocks fall

The TSX composite was lower, falling 30.31 points to 12,796.14 in mid-morning trading on Thursday. The Dow was down 58.18 to 14,453.55, while NASDAQ lost 23.74 to 3,230.44.

Enbridge Inc.'s (TSX: T.ENB, Stock Forum) U.S. unit said the costs of additional cleanup from a huge Michigan oil spill three years ago may cost more than the limit of its insurance coverage, hindering its financial results.

The European Central Bank gave Cyprus until Monday to raise billions of euros to settle an international bailout or lose emergency funds for its banks.

The price of gold gained US$8.35 to US$1,615.12 an ounce, while silver eased US$0.39 to U$29.23 an ounce.
