(The Canadian Press) EDMONTON _ One of the most prominent and recognizable U.S. critics of TransCanada Corp.'s (TSX: T.TRP, Stock Forum) Keystone XL pipeline project is coming to Alberta to have a look at the oilsands for himself.

But environmental lawyer Robert F. Kennedy Jr. says he doesn't expect the visit to change his opinion.

Kennedy says he's coming at the invitation of environmentalists and aboriginals and will try to understand the benefits that oilsands development has for the Canadian economy.

He's also trying to set up meetings with oilsands producers.

Kennedy has a long history of environmental work on both sides of the border and says the industry's climate change impact makes it a global issue.

He is to be in Fort McMurray over the Canada Day long weekend.

TransCanada shares rose 0.24% to $46.23 on Wednesday, leaving the company with a market cap of $33 billion, based on 706.6 million shares outstanding. The 52-week range is $51.21 and $41.47.
