Energy Fuels (T.EFR) up 11%: Canadian market movers

Here are the most active stocks on Thursday mid-morning on the TSX and TSX Venture Exchange.

On Thursday, the top TSX mover was Energy Fuels Inc. (TSX: T.EFR, Stock Forum). The stock rose 11% and was trading at $0.20 on volume of 7.4 million.

On July 25, the uranium mining company said Korea Electric Power Corp. (KEP, Stock Forum), Energy Fuels’ largest shareholder with an 8.5% stake, had signed two agreements supporting Energy Fuels' proposed acquisition of Strathmore Minerals Corp. (TSX: T.STM, Stock Forum). As was previously announced on June 11, 2013, Energy Fuels and Strathmore have entered into a definitive arrangement agreement whereby Energy Fuels will acquire all of the issued and outstanding shares of Strathmore by way of a plan of arrangement. The shareholders of Energy Fuels and Strathmore will be asked to approve the transaction at their special meetings to be held on August 13, 2013 and August 20, 2013, respectively.

Potash Corp. of Saskatchewan Inc. (TSX: T.POT, Stock Forum) was the second most active stock on the TSX. It climbed 1.9% and was trading at $30.35 on volume of 4.6 million shares.

On July 31, the potash producer said the TSX has approved the company’s previously announced share repurchase program to purchase for cancellation up to 43.3 million common shares, representing 5% of its outstanding common shares, over a one-year period through a normal course issuer bid subject to a maximum aggregate amount of US$2 billion. Repurchases under the program may commence on August 2, 2013 and will terminate not later than August 1, 2014.

Critical Elements Corp. (TSX: V.CRE, Stock Forum) was the volume leader on the TSX Venture Exchange. It was up 13% and was trading at $0.13 on volume of three million.

The mining exploration company had no related news to explain the high volume in trading.

The second most active stock on the TSX Venture was Iona Energy Inc. (TSX: V.INA, Stock Forum). It saw an increase of 4% and was trading at $0.52 after 2.9 million shares changed hands.

On July 31, the oil and gas company announced it had published its new website and revised corporate presentation, available at www.ionaenergy.com?, containing updates on the company's assets and business plans.
