San Gold climbs 9.4%: Canadian market movers

Here are the most active stocks on Wednesday mid-morning on the TSX and TSX Venture Exchange.

On Monday, the top TSX mover was San Gold Corp. (TSX: T.SGR, Stock Forum). It rose 9.4% and was trading at $0.175 on volume of 8.8 million shares.

On August 12, the gold mining company reported its second quarter results. During the quarter, the company produced 22,526 ounces of gold with cash operating costs of $783 per ounce of gold sold. The company recognized a quarterly total and comprehensive loss of $3.6 million. The company initiated a number of cost-cutting initiatives during the quarter in response to recent adverse market conditions.

Surge Energy Inc. (TSX: T.SGY, Stock Forum) was the second most active stock on the TSX. The stock was up 1.9% and trading at $5.80 on volume of 3.6 million.
On August 15, the oil company confirmed a cash dividend of $0.035 per a share to be paid on September 16.

ProntoForms Corp. (TSX: V.PFM, Stock Forum) was the volume leader on the TSX Venture Exchange. It lost 18.8% and was trading at $0.065 on volume of 8.7 million.

On August 20, the mobile business solutions researcher and developer released a series of client videos featuring the new Panasonic Toughpad™ FZ-A1 tablet as part of a promotional campaign for ProntoForms workflow solutions.

The second most active stock on the TSX Venture was Peruvian Precious Metals Corp. (TSX: V.PPX, Stock Forum) It fell 3.3% and was trading at $0.145 after five million shares changed hands.

On August 2, the exploration and development company announced it has engaged Marquest Capital Markets to conduct a brokered private placement of securities of the company to raise gross proceeds of up to $1.5 million through the sale of up to ten million units of the company at a price of $0.15 per unit. Net proceeds from the offering will principally be used to advance the company's properties located in Peru and for general corporate purposes.
