EDMONTON - Alberta Premier Alison Redford will make her fifth trip to Washington next month to speak about the need for TransCanada Corp.’s (TSX: T.TRP, Stock Forum) Keystone XL pipeline.

She will meet with officials in the U.S. State Department as they finalize an environmental assessment of the proposed transcontinental pipeline.

Redford says she will also meet again with Heidi Heitkamp, the Democratic senator from North Dakota who is a strong pipeline advocate.

The premier leaves on Nov. 11 for the two-day trip, during a week when the Alberta legislature doesn't sit.

The pipeline, if approved, which would carry 800,000 barrels of oil a day from Alberta across six U.S. states to the Texas Gulf Coast.

U.S. President Barack Obama is expected to issue a final decision later this year or in 2014 on whether to allow the $7-billion pipeline to proceed.
