Market Movers: Excelsior Mining (V.MIN) up 188% on PFS

Here are the most active stocks on Friday mid-morning on the TSX and TSX Venture Exchange.

On Friday, the top TSX mover was Bombardier Inc. (TSX: T.BBD.B, Stock Forum). It was up 0.5% and was trading at $4.19 on volume of 14.6 million shares.

Today the transportation equipment manufacturer, as part of a consortium, entered into a contract with a value of approximately US$4.1 billion with the State of Queensland for the New Generation Rollingstock Project. Bombardier's share of the contract is valued at approximately US$2.7 billion.

Bombardier's scope for this project includes the supply of the 75 Electrical Multiple Units, a new depot and maintenance for 30 years. The depot design and construction will be subcontracted to Laing O'Rourke.


B2Gold Corp. (TSX: T.BTO, Stock Forum) was the second most active stock on the TSX. The stock gained 7.5% and trading at $2.72 on volume of 4.4 million.

On December 20, the gold producer and Volta Resources Inc. (TSX: T.VTR, Stock Forum) announced the completion of a business combination, whereby Volta became a wholly owned subsidiary of B2Gold.

Excelsior Mining Corp. (TSX: V.MIN, Stock Forum) was the volume leader on the TSX Venture Exchange. It soared 187.5% and was trading at $0.345 on volume of 4.2 million.

Today the junior miner announced the results of a comprehensive pre-feasibility study (PFS) on the North Star deposit of the Gunnison copper project, located in southern Arizona.

Highlights of the PFS include a pre-tax net present value of $1.24 billion (after-tax $0.826 billion) at a 7.5% discount rate (using a copper price of $2.75 per pound), pre-tax internal rate of return of 59.7% (after-tax 44.7%) and pre-tax payback period of 1.8 years (after-tax 2.4 years) with an initial estimated capital cost (excluding sustaining capital) of $284.74 million.

The second most active stock on the TSX Venture was Strategic Oil & Gas Ltd. (TSX: V.SOG, Stock Forum) It lost 21.9% and was trading at $0.57 after 3.4 million shares changed hands.

Today the exploration and development company provided an operational update as well as 2014 guidance.
