BlackBerry (T.BB) up on vote of confidence from U.S. agency: Canadian market movers

Here are the most active stocks on Friday mid-morning on the TSX and TSX Venture Exchange.

On Friday, the top TSX mover was Bombardier Inc. (TSX: T.BBD.B, Stock Forum). It lost 1.7% and was trading at $4.04 on volume of 7.6 million shares.

Today, the transportation equipment manufacturer reported plans for 1,700 layoffs from its aerospace division, mostly in Montreal, as it copes with delays with two new aircraft and a tough market.

BlackBerry Ltd. (TSX: T.BB, Stock Forum) was the second most active stock on the TSX. The stock was up 0.6% and trading at $10.68 on volume of 4.3 million.

The Smartphone maker has been making gains since Monday, when the U.S. Department of Defense said about 80,000 BlackBerrys will be deployed on its new mobile device management system by the end of this month.

Lomiko Metals Inc. (TSX: V.LMR, Stock Forum) was the volume leader on the TSX Venture Exchange. It slipped 10% and was trading at $0.135 on volume of 4.7 million.

The junior explorer rose 50% yesterday after announcing that Graphene 3D Lab has reached a significant milestone by filing a provisional patent application for the use of grapheme-enhanced material, along with other materials, in 3D Printing.

The second most active stock on the TSX Venture was Unigold Inc. (TSX: V.UGD, Stock Forum) It gained 23.1% and was trading at $0.08 after 3.8 million shares changed hands.

The development-stage company had no related news to explain the high volume in trading.
