SEMAFO (TSX:SMF, StockForum), a Montreal-based mining firm engaged in gold production and exploration activities in West Africa, announced today that the company had uncovered 15 kilometres of gold geochemical anomalies along the east contact of the Siou intrusive during the ongoing auger drilling program at the newly purchased Pompoi Nord permit.

These recently discovered anomalies overlap the North Apex anomalies and show a continuous linear trend over more than 15 kilometres remaining open in both directions.

According to the news release, the company began auger drilling on the Pompoi Nord permit to explore the estimated east contact of the Siou intrusive. The auger drill program itself includes an approximate 40,000 metres of drilling on both the Pompoi Nord and Bara permits and is expected to wrap up in the first six months of 2014.

Also in the news, SEMAFO commenced the milling of ore from the high-grade Siou deposit with four shovels, one loader and 15 trucks presently working on the first bench of the Siou open pit. Approximately 3.0 million tonnes of waste and 30,000 tonnes of ore have been moved. Full mining rate at Siou is expected to be reached in Q2 2014.

SEMAFO was in the news recently when the company achieved 2013 guidance at Mana.

Currently there are 274.8m outstanding shares with a market cap of $1.1 billion.
