Montreal-based Affinor Resources (
CSE:C.AFI,
Stock Forum) has added to its list of experienced agricultural advisors and added an
academic agri-product development expert as COO in a day that saw shares rise 17.1% as it continues to demonstrate its legitimacy as a marijuana play.
New Chief Operating Officer Tegan Adams has a background the company says includes, “over 10 years of experience in providing strategic leadership and business insights through operational management and controls,” and “contributed both to federally financed national strategies in developing countries and reports on energy accounting, policy design and supply chain management for Canada's production and trade of agri-products across the globe.”
A Doctor in Cellular and Molecular Biology and a Master of Science in Plant Technology and Genetic Engineering, you can guess what value
new advisor Dr. Hyder Khoja brings to the company.
Says Sebastien Plouffe, CEO of Affinor, “His brilliance will bring an undisputable edge to Affinor Resources in their move to becoming a premier Canadian Medical Marijuana and Industrial Hemp producer with plans to be trading on the OTC and the Marijuana Exchange very soon."
Affinor brought National Research Council drug development expert Sazzad Hussain, PhD on as an advisor last week, adding to what is becoming a roster of impressive knowledge, and their stock has risen consistently as a result, climbing above $0.40 from $0.03 in just a few weeks.
Calyx Bio-Ventures (
TSX:V.CYX,
Stock Forum), which is a Stockhouse Publishing client, announced today that they’ve
gone hands-free on Agrisoma, the venture they had partnered on with BDC Capital. The Calyx board figure there’s more future in marijuana than carinata, and the market responded with applause and buys, moving shares up 29.4% with significant 3.3m volume.
The company also cancelled a private placement and announced exclusive IP deals with Agrisoma would no longer be exclusive.
“The unique and powerful features of this technology provide clear advantages for the development of plant-based products,” says the company. “Calyx is in discussions and pursuing a number of new business opportunities in the agriculture and agri-pharmaceutical sectors including the MMPR (Marijuana for Medical Purposes Regulations) and marijuana biotech where we can bring our depth of agriculture capacities.”
I’ve sat with the Calyx CEO and been impressed with the company when it was pushing into carinata as a biofuel/fallow crop. Though this announcement leaves the earlier carinata investment swinging as money spent and potentially lost, it’s a smart pivot when the share price has dropped hard over much of 2014 and the MMJ sector is pushing high.
Unlike many MMJ players, this one has legitimate experience in agri-science field, and with the
CEO of the largest North American bio-refinery and the former President of Monsanto on the board, they have some heavy hitters to lean on.
UPPERS:
Papuan Precious Metals (
TSX:V.PAU,
Stock Forum) blew the doors off Wednesday, jumping 40% on volume it hasn’t seen since mid-2013, when the market was getting the hell out of it. Perhaps the potential for medical marijuana appears better to investors than a company that has been sitting on
10% of a Papua New Guinea mining claim for the past year.
Southbridge Resources (
CSE:C.SOU,
Stock Forum) isn’t posting news either, but it also jumped, 16.6% this time. That makes it just shy of a ten-bagger since it listed a few weeks ago. Tough to buy in. Limited supply on the ask, small float.
Seaway Energy Services (
TSX:V.SEW,
Stock Forum) jumped 45% on limited volume. This company hasn’t told shareholders anything about their plans, and is up 150% from a month ago. In light of the next item, perhaps that secrecy is a good thing.
DOWNERS:
Chlormet Technologies (
TSX:V.CMT,
Stock Forum) stock has continued to be trade-halted now for the fourth day, and investors are getting annoyed as the company has explained the TSX has shut down trading until they complete a change of business. I hold a little Chlormet stock so I generally avoid writing about them, but
Gaalen Engen sums up my feelings pretty well. Moving on.
Lots of Bullboard pumping for Maple Leaf Green World (
TSX:V.MGW,
Stock Forum) going on. Remember, if someone pushes an off-topic stock on a bullboard, report them for abuse, otherwise the whole system degenerates. Maple Leaf Green World is a decent enough play, but it’s not, as some plants are hyping it, the next Tweed.
NEW PLAYERS:
Totally Hip (
TSX:V.THP,
Stock Forum) is "actively investigating business opportunities capitalizing on the commercial production of medical marijuana in Canada and the fast growing trends towards medicinal use within Canada and marijuana legalization in the United States." They've signed a
'health care entrepreneur' to run things.

Axe Exploration (
TSX:V.AXQ,
Stock Forum) has also
jumped in, and says it has $2m in cash to play with, making it a possible venture partner with companies that have no cash to speak of. Intriguing...
