Pinetree Capital Ltd. (TSX: T.PNP, Stock Forum) and CEO Sheldon Inwentash have been snapping up shares of POET Technologies (TSX: V.PTK, Stock Forum)

Pinetree bought 450,000 shares in recent weeks, according to CanadianInsider, while Inwentash grabbed 542,000 at prices ranging from $1.34 to $1.61.

POET Technologies shares rose 11% to $2.50 on Tuesday, leaving a market cap of $374.8 million, based on 149.9 million shares outstanding. The 52-week range is $2.29 and 31.5 cents.

POET says it has developed a proven and new optoelectronics semi conductor process called POET (Planar OptoElectronic Technology). POET says this technology is uniquely capable of producing monolithic integrated circuits to meet the emerging needs of markets such as military and commercial semiconductor industries.

“These markets are established, but area at a threshold where a new technology or technical dislocation is needed.”
