14 stocks Stockhouse staffers think will have a big June

If you had a thousand dollars right now to invest in anything but you had to sell it all at the end of the month, what stocks would you buy?

That’s the question we posed to our intrepid Stockhouse staffers Friday, with a view to helping you pick a few cherries out of the barrel rolling into the June slump and luring them away from the beer fridge.

There were no conditions on the size or type of company, all we wanted to know was what they think will roll upwards while the overall tide rolls back.

Of course, none of our team are investment advisors, so before you buy anything on this list, go do your own due diligence and be clever with your doughbucks.

The results:

Chris Parry, Content Manager:

Cannabis Technologies (CSE:C.CAN, Stock Forum): This is a company looking to produce quick-approval medical marijuana-based drug options and has a practically zero-cash burn/outsource heavy approach to how it’s going to get there. I actually think this stock is about where it should be, but it’s got crazy marijuana market mojo right now and has really benefited from its new US listing. I can see it maintaining that for a while, at least long enough to end the month in solid green.

The Enterprise Group (TSX:T.E, Stock Forum): Oil services company that has spent the last year rolling up players across the west coast of Canada and turning themselves into a vertical integration play that will only grow. Bizarrely oversold. Was going to get into it six months ago at $0.08 but missed a big upward swing, and now the company is back to nearly the same level, only with lots more assets and revenue built in.

Manitok Energy (TSX:V.MEI, Stock Forum): Growing oil producer with lots of land and a consistent record of hitting the sweet spots on it. Great well payback timeframes, management is doing everything right, but the market hasn’t figured it out. I like this as an entry point.

Gaalen Engen, Market Sniffer-Dog:

Theralase Technologies (TSX:V.TLT, Stock Forum) is a winner with its laser therapy solutions that actually produced extended cancer immunity responses during clinical trials. And hey, who doesn’t like that, especially compared to traditional radiation and chemo therapies. Stock has had a nice run over the last few weeks and looks coiled for another spring up.

POET Technologies (TSX: V.PTK, Stock Forum) manages to pack it all onto one chip with its patented monolithic fabrication process that wedges electronic and optical elements together into one place. In today’s world where Moore’s law is reaching its limit, POET is finding innovative ways to step it up a notch. Stock price seems to have formed a base after a six month upward run. Good news will give it another shove.

Sphere 3D (TSX:V.ANY, Stock Forum) provides solutions for the exploding cloud computing market by providing patent pending emulation and virtualization technologies that rival their desktop/local server-based counterparts. We’re moving toward a computing society of thin clients attached to cloud-based services and these guys are going to make bank on that shift. Last few months have seen it level off after 8 months of consistent upward motion from $0.20 to the current $9.10. I like it to keep that trajectory going.

James McClelland, Sales Beast:

Espial Group Inc. (TSX:T.ESP, Stock Forum) – Technology that is powering next gen smart TVs, opening international offices, just partnered with Samsung and announced a bought deal for $10million. Nothing but up since October 2013.

Transgaming (TSX:V.TNG, Stock Forum) – Sell itself as a Netflix for gaming, recently partnered with Panasonic, stock is at a 2014 low which makes for a nice jump-in point.

Theralase (see above) – Killing cancer cells and stopping recurrence – that’s not a bad mission statement.

Peter Kennedy, Feature Writer:

Harte Gold (TSX:T.HRT, Stock Forum)Already tripled since April, may double again as it is looking for a Hemlo style discovery and Ned Goodman and Steve Roman are behind it.

Verde Science (OTCQB: VRCI, Stock Forum) Medical marijuana play in the US, formerly Rango Energy, will double for sure as it is being pumped hard, with Torrey Hills doing the communications.

Kaizen Discovery (TSX:V.KZD, Stock Forum) Has been up and down in 2014 but sits at a nice low buy-in and could still double with Robert Friedland behind the mining/technology play.

Thom Calandra, The Man at the Coalface:

I will stick with the fun-damentals:

Vaporin (OTO:VAPO, Stock Forum) -- the sexy way to vaporize; what Marilyn would be doing today if Norma Jean were still alive -- oh so steamy, lots of flavors and a nice hit that you can regulate, and no messy tar on the tongue, teeth or lungs; and hey, cannabis users, think waxes and oils. It's an OTC at 10 cents a share and I own it, but not enough yet to make a difference in our lives.

Sysorex Global Holdings (OTO:SYRX, Stock Forum) -- It's fully Nasdaq listed and the cheapest real sequential grower of quarterly revenue that I know of. The computer systems integrator now has Shoom, Air Patrol, Lilien Systems with more on the way. I have yet to purchase the stock and see it sink for more than a few days. On multiples of forward sales, its competitors in the area of computer and services reselling for big data, cyber security and Cloud 9, as I call it, sell for 5 to 10 times its 1x sales. My best shot at making a million bucks in less than a year. This one could be added to a few Russell indexes, or at least one of them, by June 30. I own it.

NuLegacy Gold (TSX:V.NUG, Stock Forum) -- Nevada. Gold. Oxidized. The cheapest thing out there in a state that will see rapid consolidation of junior miners this year. Plus, a clever financing team that has solid upside on a British unit trust holding. Assays from several holes at its flagship project, Iceberg in what is called The Cortezi, likely will be out in three to five week, my guess. I have three big stakes in Nevada -- and they include Gold Standard Ventures in Elko, Nevada (GSV). But NuLegacy? It is soo cheap, and so event driven, I have to believe its 12-cent CAD price will double or triple on anything it pulls from the ground.

Randy Halischuk, Marketing Doyen:

I'd just go buy beer.

FULL DISCLOSURE: Cannabis Technologies, Theralase and Manitok Energy are Stockhouse Publishing clients.

Got a tip we missed? Leave it in the comments and show how clever you are.
