You always hear about minor hockey, but what about miners and hockey?
Five Hole For Food is finishing off their 5
th annual cross-Canada tour in Vancouver this weekend, and to go with it, they’ll be hosting their second ever “Mining For Food” mini-tournament.
And they want your company to be represented.
Five Hole For Food is an organization that strives to bring food to those in need through the game of ball hockey. Inspired by the togetherness that playing sports brings to people, the FHFF team makes an annual trip from coast to coast, organizing drop-in games in a variety of locations. To participate, all that one needs to do is bring a food or cash donation.
Last year, the crew decided to tie Vancouver’s vast mining community into the cause, creating an event within their final event. Mining For Food is a way to bolster donations while giving those in the mining industry an opportunity to show off their skills and attempt to earn bragging rights for a full year.
If you’d like to take part, it’s pretty simple. First, put together a team of five or more people to represent your local organization. Try to make it the best team you can possibly assemble; everyone is looking to have fun, but when push comes to shove, there’s a tournament to win.
Once you’ve got your people, it’s time to register. This requires a $500 donation, all of which will go straight to the Greater Vancouver Food Bank.
After that, it’s up to you. You’re free to drum up whatever strategy you want to carry you into Saturday’s event, whether it’s practicing in your free time, or making sure you’re as rested as possible. If all goes to plan, your team will be the diamond in the rough.
Mining For Food and Five Hole For Food will be taking place at 700 & 800 Granville Street from 12-6 PM on Saturday, July 19
th.
