TORONTO _ The Canadian dollar gained more than one-tenth of a U.S. cent Wednesday ahead of trading on North American stock markets
The loonie traded at 83.28 cents US, up 0.15 of a U.S. cent from Tuesday's close.
The Dow Jones industrial futures were down 81 points at 17,977.0, the Nasdaq futures fell 18.5 points to 4,497.5, and the S&P 500 futures declined 8.9 points to 2,103.1.
On the commodity markets, the June crude contract was down 27 cents at US$56.79 a barrel and the June gold contract fell $3 to US$1,210.90 an ounce ahead of the TSX open.
The S&P/TSX composite index closed Wednesday at 15,346.07, after rising 1.99 points.
