CALGARY - The head of Suncor Energy (TSX:SU, Forum) says a meeting between industry and Prime Minister Justin Trudeau was encouraging, but there were no assurances on pipeline matters.

Steve Williams was among seven oil and gas leaders who met with Trudeau, federal Natural Resources Minister Jim Carr and Alberta Premier Rachel Notley.

He says it was good to talk about some of the challenges the industry is facing.

Williams says the group also offered some potential solutions that the federal government might consider.

Alberta Energy Minister Marg McCuaig-Boyd says Trudeau was actively listening to the advice.

She says the prime minister is attempting to learn as much as he can from the industry.
