For residents and visitors to the City of Vancouver, the next week will be a hectic week for mining investors, as well as the companies looking to attract those investor dollars. Four, separate events will be taking place over the next seven days, from January 20th through January 26th: the Metals Investor Forum, the Vancouver Resource Investment Conference, the Groundup Networking Reception, and the AME Roundup.
The concentration of events is yet another indicator of renewed interest and activity in the mining sector. Through the downturn in metals markets over the past five years, not all of these events were even being scheduled each year, and those events which were held drew only a fraction of the normal number of attendees.
However, after a turn-around year in the mining industry in 2016, investor interest has once again been building in these companies. Equally important, the more-positive investment climate for mining companies means that these corporations are once again able to raise capital, on relatively advantageous terms. This translates into more growth and development, which is what is stoking this rise in investor interest.
Three of the events are typical investor-company shows, with numerous mining companies exhibiting along with a collection of guest speakers, including many of the most-respected analysts in the mining sector. The action kicks off today with the Metals Investor Forum, January 20th and 21st, at the Rosewood Hotel Georgia.
The Metals Investor Forum is an industry event which “offers you the chance to connect with the management teams of some of the top companies in the industry.” Along with the chance for mining companies and investors to get together, there will be a collection of keynote speakers, addressing some of the more important investors themes in the mining industry for 2017.
A total of 29 mining companies will be exhibiting at this year’s Forum. Notable speakers include Eric Coffin (HRA Advisories) and Jay Taylor (Gold, Energy, and Tech Stocks newsletter).
Next on the agenda is the Vancouver Resource Investment Conference, hosted by Cambridge House International. The show takes place on January 22nd and 23rd at the Vancouver Convention Centre West, with nearly 250 exhibitors presenting to investors. Most of these exhibitors are resource companies, including energy companies. However, there are also exhibits from a collection of diverse entities, ranging from the Royal Canadian Mint to Stockhouse Publishing.
The VRIC will also have 45 guest speakers at the show, including mining executives and noted analysts. Included among this roster of speakers will be Doug Casey (Casey Research LLC), Frank Holmes (US Global Investors), and Peter Schiff (Euro Pacific Capital Inc.).
The third event is the Groundup Networking Reception, scheduled on January 23rd at 999 Canada Pl. This event combines a networking opportunity for the resource community with the opportunity for investors to register, in order to rub elbows with the corporate attendees. Organized by the Canadian Securities Exchange, Groundup touts “the value of building and growing connections with a diverse set of industry contacts.” Media partners for the event include Stockhouse.
Last on the agenda is the AME Roundup. Organizers bill the AME as "the lead association for the mineral exploration and development industry based in British Columbia." Running for four days, from January 23rd through January 26th at 999 Canada Pl., Roundup 2017 presents a wide cross-section of companies, spread across several rooms, each with their own theme. Attendees can choose from the Core Shack, Prospector's Tent, and Poster Session. An Exhibit Hall Happy Hour will follow the daily events from 4:00 pm to 5:00 pm Monday - Wednesday.
Investing in mining and resource companies is once again fully on the radar of the investment community. The resource companies themselves are once again in a growth cycle. For investors looking to hone their due diligence by connecting directly with these resource companies, you have several opportunities to do so over the next week.
