Monday morning markets are mostly flat after a string of successful closes that stretched to three straight weeks.

Wall Street markets were split, while the Hang Seng was muted ahead of the eagerly anticipated meeting between leaders from the US and China to further the negotiations around the ongoing trade dispute between the world’s two largest economies.

Global economic growth has stuttered over uncertainty swirling around this dispute and as tensions rose over the past quarter,

the broader market shook under the pressure. This will mark the 12th round of negotiations and both sides continue to be locked in a stalemate.

Tech stocks rose during early trading while energy and health care posted losses out of the gate. The TSX was also flat and investors await Q1 results from BlackBerry Ltd. (TSE:BB) and Shaw Communications Inc. (TSE:SJR) in the week ahead.
