The ongoing pipeline dispute between the Wet'suwet'en hereditary chiefs and Coastal GasLink of TC Energy Corp. (TSX:TRP) is no closer to resolving as the two sides say proposed alternate pipeline routes are not feasible.
As supporters of the Wet'suwet'en chiefs continue to protest and escalate disruptions to rail, ferry, and other transportation services, the federal and provincial governments are being pressured to step in and prevent significant economic impacts while the two parties struggle to reach a consensus.
Coastal GasLink says its final proposed 670km pipeline route was selected after years of study and consultation with local First Nations, and that a proposed alternate route to appease the Wet'suwet'en demands was ignored. Meanwhile, the Office of the Wet'suwet'en hereditary chiefs claims that their proposed alternate route, which Coastal GasLink claims it was unaware of and is unfeasible, was proposed as early as 2014 and ignored.
