2020 has been nothing short of a rollercoaster of a year for companies across the globe, but EarthRenew Inc. (CSE: ERTH) has kept busy during Q1. The agri-tech Company looks to keep that momentum going strong into Q2 with new pellet formulations and new projects with the governments of Canada and the United Kingdom.

Click to enlargeERTH recently announced that it has developed and produced five new formulations of fertilizer pellets, incorporating key transformative ingredients - insect frass and biochar.

Insect frass is valuable to the agricultural industry, because it can maximize the number of fungi within fertilizer and can change the pH level to make it better suited to perennials, shrubs, and trees. Since it is composed of digested plants, it contains nutrients that helps plants grow and is one of the few sources of chitin for plants, which can fortify a plant from their cell walls outward, acting almost like a natural pesticide to help defend against an insect invasion. Biochar is rich in carbon and can be used to benefit soil’s health in a unique way by removing harmful carbon from the atmosphere. Assisting in with development is Colorado-based biochar producer BiocharNow, LLC.

In a May 2020 news release, the Company explained that these new formulations will be used in this spring’s field trial programs in collaboration with Olds College and Lethbridge College in Alberta.

EarthRenew’s Chief Executive Officer, Keith Driver called this first run of the new blended fertilizer pellets a high-grade product and the team looks forward to seeing how it performs in the (literal) field.

“This is a significant step forward as we look to retool the facility in Click to enlargeStrathmore and develop a suite of innovative product offerings that we anticipate will contribute to soil and plant health for different types of plants. We believe that collaborating with innovative partners like BiocharNow helps EarthRenew develop unique blends of sustainable organic fertilizer that we anticipate will add value for our customers and benefit the environment.”

Further to this, ERTH also made significant news earlier this spring, when it announced that it had been selected to submit an international consortium project proposal by the governments of Canada and the United Kingdom.

In January 2020, EarthRenew began formally working with cleantech business CCm Technologies Ltd. and has been testing its carbon capture utilisation technology with the its own heat-treated manure as a base.

From the report: Initial bench testing indicated that EarthRenew could generate a 7.0-1.7-2.2 nitrogen, phosphorus, and potassium (NPK) ratio fertilizer product. The higher nitrogen content of the upgraded 7-1.7-2.2 NPK organic fertilizer product has the potential to deliver up to four times higher value for farmers. EarthRenew believes implementing CCm’s technology into its production process could lead to the development of a wide range of specialist formulations in the future.

This project and this collaboration have excited both EarthRenew and CCm, as they believe this relationship could significantly advance their respective commercialization schedules. The project proposal is due at the end of the month. If EarthRenew’s proposal is selected by the panel, the Company would be eligible for up to a 50% reimbursement of the project’s costs.

CEO Driver hailed this as the next clear step in building its partnership with CCm Technologies.

“This funding initiative is very much aligned with the goals of both EarthRenew and CCm. It is great to see that governments can be as collaborative as companies when trying to advance agricultural innovation.”

This is a busy Company with more news to come about these projects and more, in the very near future. To find out more about EarthRenew’s business and market, read Stockhouse Editorial’s previous coverage “Organic Fertilizer in Demand, this Company Adds Value on Both Ends of Equation”.
