Citibank Support of Teletón USA Generates $1.4 million

In an effort to provide aid to children with disabilities and cancer in the United States, Citibank today announced that its support of Teletón USA during the holiday season generated $1.4 million in donations.

To drive financial support for Teletón USA, Citibank branches across the U.S. were enabled to accept contributions from customers, employees and community residents from November 1 – December 31, 2012. Customers were also able to make donations via Citibank Online through a link to www.teletonusa.org.

Since it began in Chile in 1978, Teletón has grown to become one of the world’s largest voluntary aide organizations, holding annual fundraising telethons in 13 countries. The charity provides support for children with autism, disabilities and cancer. Banamex has been the official bank of Teletón since its inception.

“Citibank is thrilled to bring this level of support to Teletón USA,” said Cece Stewart, President, U.S. Consumer and Commercial Banking, Citi. “We thank our customers, employees and community members for their generous donations, which will provide vital support and services to children and their families in the United States.”

Citibank participated in Teletón USA, a 27-hour telethon event. The inaugural Teletón USA was broadcast on Univision on Dec. 14-15, 2012, with Stewart presenting a check for $250,000 during the broadcast with Ernesto Torres, Chief Executive Officer of Banamex.

“Banamex has a proud history as the bank of Teletón and we are deeply committed to their cause in Mexico and Latin America,” said Torres. “We are delighted to have Citibank continue this tradition in the U.S. as Teletón USA generates awareness and support in this country.”

“We want to thank all the people who donated,” said Fernando Landeros Verdugo, President of Fundación Teletón. “Together we will change the lives of many children and their families.”
