Through this engagement with SAP (NYSE: SAP), AutoGrid plans to expand the market for automated demand management technologies.
"We are thrilled to participate with SAP in the SAP Co-Innovation Lab," said Dr. Amit Narayan, founder and CEO of AutoGrid. "Utilities have looked to SAP for years to help them manage their critical operations. Through this engagement, we will be able to increase the number and range of utilities that can adopt automated demand response as well as once again demonstrate that the cleanest, cheapest source of energy can be data."
AutoGrid, through its involvement in the SAP Co-Innovation Lab, plans to demonstrate how utilities and their customers can benefit from a close integration between their customer management systems and demand management solutions by providing end-to-end scenarios for demand-side management. It will also show how utilities will have the option to acquire solutions so they can implement more advanced, broad-based, and profitable energy efficiency programs.
Furthermore, AutoGrid will demonstrate how the SAP for Utilities portfolio of solutions manages business processes for utilities around the world through integration with AutoGrid's Energy Data Platform (EDP) and Demand Response Optimization and Management Service (DROMS) for forecasting and managing power demand. While attractive as a way to reduce power bills, demand response and demand management programs can be confusing to implement and manage. Utilities often offer overlapping efficiency programs. Customers also often experience a lag between their participation and financial compensation. By integrating SAP for Utilities with AutoGrid's platform, utilities can streamline their operations while making participation in these programs more attractive.
DROMS is a cloud-based demand management service that employs Big Data analytics, a physics-based model of the grid and information streams from smart meters and other grid assets to accurately predict electricity demand. The near-term forecasts permit utilities, grid operators and large power consumers to securely shift power consumption to meet financial or operational goals. Requiring no additional hardware, DROMS, the first application based from the Energy Data Platform, can cut the cost of demand response systems by 90 percent while increasing the "yield" of power from demand response events by 30 percent.
SAP for Utilities is a complete suite of enterprise software to support utilities in their business processes from meter-to-cash, customer sales and service, demand-side management, integration to advanced metering infrastructure (AMI), utilities-specific work management, analytics and more. Over 660 utilities of all sizes and in all markets are using this solution handling over three billion invoices every year. Providing already the capability to manage demand-side management programs as well as the AMI integration to enable business processes to seamlessly benefit from Smart Meter capabilities makes the extension of these functions by integrating into the unique capabilities of the AutoGrid solution a logical choice to support end-to-end scenarios for demand-side management.
