Tellabs Achieves Metro Ethernet Forum Carrier Ethernet 2.0 Certification

Tellabs Achieves Metro Ethernet Forum Carrier Ethernet 2.0 Certification

NAPERVILLE, Ill., Jan. 30, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- The Metro Ethernet Forum (MEF) presented Tellabs with the Carrier Ethernet (CE) 2.0 certificate at the Americas CE Summit on January 29 in San Diego. The certificate marks the successful completion of CE 2.0 certification testing for the Tellabs® 7100 Optical Transport System and the Tellabs® 7300 Metro Ethernet Switch series.

For service providers, CE 2.0 ushers in a new era of Ethernet services, with carrier-grade OAM (operations, administration and maintenance) support and resiliency, better interoperability at network boundaries, and more granular provisioning and management capabilities.

Joe Shilgalis, vice president of North America sales, accepted the award for Tellabs. "As an early adopter of CE 2.0, Tellabs demonstrates market leadership in Carrier Ethernet through our broad Metro Ethernet Switch and Packet Optical Transport product portfolio," Shilgalis said. "The Tellabs® 8000 Intelligent Network Manager enables service providers to provision and manage Carrier Ethernet services from the demarcation point all the way through metro and regional networks. The MEF CE 2.0 certification provides our customers with a high level of assurance in the performance of Tellabs 7100 and 7300 based Carrier Ethernet Services."

Tellabs was also an earlier adopter of MEF CE 1.0, attaining certification of its packet transport product families back in 2005.

Bob Mandeville, President and Founder of test lab Iometrix, which is responsible for MEF's testing process, said that "Tellabs is part of a select group of vendors that we have put through all the paces of the most challenging series of MEF conformity tests to date. The resulting CE 2.0 certification is evidence of the company's strong and continued commitment to Carrier Ethernet standards."

According to Vertical Systems Group, bandwidth purchased for business Ethernet service connections already exceeds the volume of bandwidth utilized for legacy data services globally. Business Ethernet overtook legacy data services in the United States in 2011. With the adoption of CE 2.0 certification by equipment vendors and operators, the industry's shift away from legacy services to Carrier Ethernet is expected to accelerate further.
