Hastings County receives energy savings rebate for installing Safe-T-element(R) on 806 new ranges.
Belleville, ON - (February 5, 2013) - Pioneering Technology Corp. (TSX-V: PTE; OTC BB: PTEFF), ("Pioneering"), an energy smart product innovation/consumer goods company and North America's leader in cooking fire prevention technologies, announced today that Hasting County's installation of 806 new ranges equipped with Pioneering's Safe-T-element cooking system has been recognized by the Ontario Power Authority's saveONenergy program.
With the help of its local utility company Veridian Connections Inc. (Veridian), the Hastings County Housing Programs Branch is the first affordable housing provider in the province to receive an energy savings rebate for the installation of new ranges equipped with the Safe-T-element's fire prevention and energy saving technology.
The project was assessed by Burman Energy Consultants Group Inc. and it was determined that the installation of Safe-T-element on 806 new ranges projected an annual savings of 115,137 kWh. Burman Energy confirmed that the project aligned with the requirements as specified by the OPA.
Melanie Walls, Veridian's Key Accounts Representative, said of The Corporation of Hastings County's decision to install ranges equipped with the Safe-T-element cooking technology, "Thank you for taking the initiative to ensure that your project incorporated energy efficiency and electrical demand reduction".
The saveONenergy programs are funded by the Ontario Power Authority and offered by local electric utility companies throughout the province. The RETROFIT Program is one of a suite of province-wide saveONenergy conservation programs offered by Veridian and all other utility companies in the province to help Ontario achieve its conservation goals by replacing existing equipment with high efficiency equipment and for installing new control systems that will improve the efficiency of operational procedures and processes.
Pioneering CEO Kevin Callahan said of the announcement, "Pioneering's Safe-T-element is having a significant impact in helping affordable housing providers deliver a safer and more energy efficient environment for the tenants they serve. Hastings County is the latest in an ongoing trend of housing providers in Ontario and throughout North America that are making the Safe-T-element cooking system an important part of their overall safety and energy saving housing strategy."
Overall, Ontario has 733,000 low-income households. More than 90% of these households have electric cooking ranges. Ontario's Long-Term Energy Plan sets out one of the most ambitious conservation goals in North America focused on reducing peak demand by 7,100 megawatts and overall demand by 28 terawatt-hours by 2030.
Safe-T-element is just one of the many ways the province is attempting to achieve its goal.
