VANCOUVER, BRITISH COLUMBIA--(Marketwire - Feb. 21, 2013) -
Global Met Coal Corporation (TSX VENTURE:GMZ)(FRANKFURT:B1H) (the "Company") announces that excellent progress has been achieved toward obtaining the mining permit for its Black Creek Coal Mine.
The 450 acre Black Creek property is located in Jefferson County, Alabama, and once permitted, sales contract discussions can be concluded and production of metallurgical coal to local customers can commence. The Company is planning to use contract miners to develop the mine.
Since its submittal in early October 2012, the permit application has successfully passed through several reviews up to and including the Pre-Issuance Conference.
Granting of the permit is now conditional upon completing the post-mine mitigation plan with the Army Corp of Engineers and completing the emergency water discharge plan.
The Corp of Engineers requires post-mine stream and wetlands mitigation engineering work. That work is underway and should be ready for submittal by mid next month.
In regards to the water discharge plan, new regulations are being formulated to include discharges of arsenic. When the new standard is implemented, our engineers can then formulate a plan to meet the standard.
The Company's engineers estimate four to eight weeks will be required to complete the additional work and obtain the mining permit.
