American Tower Corporation (NYSE: AMT) announced today the deployment of
a Distributed Antenna System (DAS) network solution at the Daytona
International Speedway in Daytona Beach, FL. Owned and operated by the
International Speedway Corporation (NASDAQ Global Select Market: ISCA;
OTC Bulletin Board: ISCB) (ISC), Daytona International Speedway is known
as the “World Center of Racing.”
The DAS network was launched to facilitate rising wireless communication
and data activity throughout the 480-acre motorsports complex. In
February 2013, the Daytona International Speedway will be the home of
the 2013 Budweiser Speedweeks, a 10-day event, culminating with the 55th
annual Daytona 500. Hundreds of thousands of people, including
competitors, spectators and staff, are expected to attend the events.
The DAS network, owned and operated by American Tower, will support the
increased wireless traffic resulting from the wide attendance at the
venue.
“Our goal at the Daytona International Speedway was to build a network
that not only met the carriers’ coverage and capacity requirements but
also enabled a multitude of enterprise services,” said Gerard Ainsztein,
American Tower’s Senior Vice President, Managed Networks. “With the
successful deployment of the network, our carrier partners are able to
offer market-leading 4G services while their customers experience
unprecedented cellular performance. Additionally, ISC plans to leverage
the network to operate its multimedia and sports operations, allowing
ISC to offer its guests a package of mobile services that will enhance
the overall fan experience. American Tower looks forward to
collaborating with ISC to bring these services to the remaining ISC
raceways.”
Craig A. Neeb, ISC’s Vice President, Multi-Channel Marketing and Chief
Information Officer, stated, “ISC is committed to enhancing the fan
experience and our relationship with American Tower helps us achieve
this goal. This relationship not only benefits our fans but also
improves the connectivity for everyone involved during event weekends.
This is the foundation to future enhancements in providing more reliable
connectivity for everyone.”
The network, with several hundred antennas, is capable of hosting
multiple carriers and features dedicated backup power and an electrical
distribution system that allows for multiple remote generators to supply
power to transmission equipment installed throughout the grandstands.
