Puma Exploration Discovers New Copper Showing 4 Kilometers South of the Turgeon Cu-Zn Deposit, New Brunswick
RIMOUSKI, QUEBEC--(Marketwire - Feb. 26, 2013) - Puma Exploration (TSX VENTURE:PUM) is pleased to announce the discovery of a new copper showing grading up-to 6.92% Cu located approximately 4.0 kilometers south of the main Turgeon Cu-Zn deposit in New Brunswick. A team of two geologists conducted prospecting and mapping on Turgeon and Turgeon South properties with the objective to verify the first priority surface targets set by the company Diagnos (TSX VENTURE:ADK) and defined by regional geochemical and geophysical anomalies.
From the 234 samples collected, 32 samples show significant results and are mainly correlated with surface targets set by Diagnos. Three (3) areas of interest (see map attached) were defined, including a new copper showing from which a total of 16 samples, with grades ranging from 0.2% to 6.9% Cu, were collected.
The new copper showing is 50m long by 10m wide and located within the Fournier Group hosting also the main Turgeon Cu-Zn Deposit. The Turgeon Cu-Zn Deposit shows significant copper and zinc mineralization as drilled in hole FT11-04 grading 0.51% Cu and 0.31% Zn over 300.9 meters or in hole FT10-02 grading 1.13% Cu and 0.71% Zn over 108.5 meters (see press release 21-02-2013).
The new mineralized zone is composed of quartz veins with copper sulphides in a silicified gabbro. The best results obtained were as follows:
- 6.92 % Cu, 3.76%Cu, 3.28%Cu, 2.87%Cu, 2.78% Cu 1.86% Cu (6 samples)
"The discovery of a new Copper Showing in the same geological setting and only 4 kilometers away from the Main Turgeon Cu-Zn Deposit is very encouraging for finding more Cu-Zn satellite deposits related to the same VMS system.", notes Marcel Robillard, President of Puma Exploration.
The two (2) other areas of interest are located also within the Fournier Group approximately 6 kilometers south of the main Turgeon Cu-Zn deposit and mainly show silver-lead-zinc and gold mineralization.
- Area 2: 143 g/t Ag, 3.92% Pb and 1.39% Zn (1 sample)
- Area 3: 0.21 g/t Au, 0.65% Cu (1 sample)
The discoveries were made using CARDS technology as targets generator. Puma is planning in the vicinity of these discoveries trenching and stripping programs to better delineate the zones and more prospecting on unexplored area and targets are also planned.
About Turgeon
The Turgeon property is located only five kilometres south of the deepwater port of Belledune, New Brunswick. The property is accessible by road all year round and is intersected by a power line. The Turgeon property is 5,355 hectares and is part of Puma's 13,093 hectares that is held in the Bathurst Mining Camp of northern New Brunswick that is being actively explored.
The Turgeon copper deposit consists, so far, of four mineralized lenses with high copper-zinc values, distributed over a length of 450 metres. Only two holes have reached a vertical depth of 400 metres. The known mineralized zones have thus not been tested to depth or laterally within the favourable horizons. Also, a number of untested surface and borehole geophysical anomalies that are located within the Turgeon area and are define as drill-ready targets.
