EPA Recognizes KB Home with 2013 ENERGY STAR Partner of the Year - Sustained Excellence Award
The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has recognized KB
Home (NYSE: KBH) with a 2013 ENERGY STAR® Partner of the Year -
Sustained Excellence Award for continued leadership in protecting the
environment through superior energy efficiency. KB Home is the only
builder to receive this award for three years in a row. KB Home’s
accomplishments will be recognized at an awards ceremony in Washington,
D.C. on March 26, 2013.
KB Home, an ENERGY STAR partner since 2000, will be honored for its
long-term commitment to energy efficiency. It has built more than 75,000 ENERGY
STAR certified homes since then, and builds all of its new homes to
the ENERGY STAR program’s Version 3 guidelines at no added cost to its
homebuyers. The U.S. EPA estimates that, in one year, families living in
those more than 75,000 ENERGY STAR certified homes will save more than a
total of $33 million on their utility bills while preventing greenhouse
gas emissions equivalent to those from 37,000 vehicles.
“Today’s consumer remains cost-conscious and building our homes to
ENERGY STAR standards makes good sense for the environment and, more
importantly, good dollars and cents for our homebuyers,” said Jeffrey
Mezger, president and chief executive officer of KB Home. “We are proud
that the EPA has recognized us once again for our dedication to the
ENERGY STAR program and even more proud that we have helped American
families reduce their total cost of homeownership for years to come.”
Across the U.S., top companies and organizations are leading the way
toward a more energy-efficient future through their participation in ENERGY
STAR. Over the last 20 years, with help from ENERGY STAR, American
families and businesses have saved more than $230 billion on utility
bills and prevented more than 1.8 billion metric tons of greenhouse gas
emissions.
"EPA is recognizing KB Home for earning EPA’s highest ENERGY STAR award
- the 2013 Partner of the Year - Sustained Excellence Award,” said Bob
Perciasepe, Acting Administrator, U.S. Environmental Protection Agency.
“KB Home leads the field with their commitment to energy efficiency and
demonstrates how all Americans can save energy, save money, and create a
healthier environment.”
The 2013 Partner of the Year - Sustained Excellence Awards are given to
a select group of organizations that have exhibited outstanding
leadership year after year. These winners have reduced greenhouse gas
emissions by setting and achieving aggressive goals, and employing
innovative energy efficiency approaches. These awards recognize ongoing
leadership across the ENERGY STAR program, including energy-efficient
products, services, new homes, and buildings in the commercial,
industrial, and public sectors. Award winners are selected from the
nearly 20,000 organizations that participate in the ENERGY STAR program.
