TD and Arbor Day Foundation Announce Winners of TD Green Streets Grants

$200,000 in urban forestry grants awarded to support tree plantings in 10 municipalities from Maine to Florida

CHERRY HILL, N.J. and PORTLAND, Maine, April 5, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- Today, TD and the Arbor Day Foundation announced the inaugural winners of TD Green Streets, a new grant program supporting innovation in urban forestry. Each $20,000 grant will fund projects in underserved communities, including the purchase of trees, tree planting, maintenance costs, and educational activities.

Along with TD's flagship volunteer program, TD Tree Days, TD Green Streets is a component of TD Forests, a North American initiative that protects critical forest habitats equal to the amount of paper the bank uses each year. As part of this program, TD has also committed to reducing its paper usage by 20 percent by 2015. Combined, these programs underscore the bank's commitment to forest protection and stewardship, and are a direct investment in the health of our urban tree canopy.

"TD is proud to award TD Green Streets grants to these very deserving municipalities for their urban forestry projects," said Diana Glassman, Head of Environmental Affairs for TD Bank. "This partnership with Arbor Day Foundation is a component of our TD Forests initiative and aligns with our goal to be a strong environmental partner in our communities."

"We're excited to join TD Bank in supporting ten communities committed to effective tree care for the benefit of all residents," said John Rosenow, founder and chief executive of the Arbor Day Foundation. "TD Green Streets will help these worthy Tree City USA participants to remain on the cutting-edge of urban forestry."

To be eligible for a TD Green Streets grant, qualified municipalities were required to be current Arbor Day Foundation Tree City USA®-designated communities within TD Bank's United States footprint. Tree City USA® is the nation's premier urban and community forestry program, providing a foundation for effective, well-organized community tree care.
