LONDON, April 23, 2013 /PRNewswire/ --

Major U.S. banks kicked off the earnings season for the financial sector last week. While the results reported by the five major U.S. banks were mixed, one positive thing was their strong balance sheets. U.S. banks have emerged much stronger from the financial crisis, and they are well capitalized. However, the same cannot be said for foreign, especially European, banks. On Monday, foreign regional banks ended mostly higher, tracking gains in the broad market. Among the major movers were Banco Santander (Brasil) SA (NYSE: BSBR), Grupo Financero Santander Mexico SAB de CV (NYSE: BSMX), Deutsche Bank AG (NYSE: DB), Banco Bilbao Vizcaya Argentaria SA (NYSE: BBVA), and Royal Bank of Canada (NYSE: RY).
